Hello readers,
If you follow the IC blog, you probably already guessed that I am a new intern at InternChina-Qingdao office. My name is Lindzey and I come from Montréal, a wonderful and multicultural city in the province of Québec, Canada.
I attend the Université de Montréal, the second largest university in Canada and one of the top universities in the French-speaking world. I’m currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies specializing in Political Science.
Why China…
My curiosity for China took root in the fact that it is predicted to become the world’s largest economy in the next few years, surpassing the longstanding United States. Learning about the Chinese culture first hand, as well as the Chinese way of doing business, is therefore very important to me because this new world order will definitely reshape the way people do politics. Coming to China to do an internship seemed like a great opportunity to meet new people from all over the world, gain working experience as well as soak up everything that Qingdao has to offer!
… And why an internship with IC?
While strolling the corridors of my faculty department, I was lucky to one-day stumble across an InternChina leaflet on a job board. After visiting their website and reading some of the other intern’s blogs, I decided that Qingdao best suited me. With its seemingly beautiful beaches, clean air, old town and spicy cuisine I decided to apply! A few months later, here I am writing my first blog surrounded by a great team, in a fantastic location and eager to begin my three-month internship in Marketing and Admin.
Upon arrival at the Qingdao airport, my flatmate Hyacinth, who is also an intern at IC, was waiting for me with a sign …like in the movies! Thanks to her, I was able to take a taxi and head straight to our flat and settle in. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of the apartment, as well as the overall décor. The following day, we took a bus to the downtown area and had a lovely walk near Marina City and the well-known May Fourth Square. It’s so beautiful! With many people just relaxing nearby in the sun, having fun flying a kite or visiting the Olympic sailing centre, Qingdao gives a great first impression!
With this being my first ever trip to Asia and the longest amount of time spent abroad, I am very fortunate to be surrounded by so many great people and able to discover more and more each day what this great coastal city has to offer. I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences in future blogs.
