Hello! My name is Rosey, I’m 20 years old and from a town called Moira in Northern Ireland. I’m currently studying for a degree in Communication, Advertising and Marketing at the Ulster University. I arrived in Qingdao a week ago and will be here for three months.

I learned about Intern China through university, where we have to undertake an industrial placement before graduating. I’ve always wanted to visit China but I never thought I would be able to, I was honestly a little intimidated by the huge culture and language differences. A few of my friends have visited different parts of China while on gap years and their stories of how amazing the country was, combined with one of my teachers at school spending 5 years telling me that China was where I had to be if I wanted to work in business only made me more determined to go.  I had never considered coming to China to do an internship before I heard about InternChina, but after reading through the website and seeing how popular the internships are I decided to try! I also have no idea what I want to specialise in after graduating, and working in Qingdao means I get to experience more than just a marketing job.

So far Qingdao is a beautiful city, filled with amazing food and plenty to do. I was lucky enough to arrive during a national holiday so I had a week to myself to enjoy the city with the other interns before beginning work. So far I’ve visited the beaches, seen the Old Town, climbed Fushan (which is only a 20 minute walk from where I’m living!) and been to the night market. I also found out there is a café here filled with cats, which may not interest everybody but visiting it was the highlight of my day! The city is very different to anything at home, and the traffic is definitely making me reconsider my opinion of what a rush hour is. Everyone I’ve met in the city and in Intern China has been friendly and welcoming, they definitely make me feel like I made the right decision to come here.
