Y’alright Laa!

Shanghai-Bund-2

Hello everyone!
My name is Hannah and I’m the new intern at Intern China at the Qingdao office. I’m 22 years old and I’m from Liverpool in England. If you don’t know where Liverpool is, it is where the famous band ‘The Beatles’ originated from and is also well known for the football team, Liverpool Football Club (LFC). People from Liverpool are generally known as ‘Scousers’ because we have a strong accent and sense of humour that can be quite difficult to understand! I am British born Chinese (BBC) so a lot of people are shocked when they first hear me speak, I love seeing their reactions!

I’m studying at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, my degree is ‘Business Management in China’; this bachelor’s degree consists of business modules, as well as learning the Mandarin Chinese language. As part of my degree, it is compulsory to spend a year abroad in China doing 6 months studying and 6 months internship. Last semester I spent 6 months in Shanghai studying Mandarin; it was a wonderful experience and I unexpectedly fell in love with the city. In the future, I would definitely consider living and working in the international metropolis!

Although I enjoyed Shanghai a lot, I decided to spend my second semester in a different city because I wanted to compare the dissimilarities in living and working in a coastal city compared to an urban city. So here I am, currently in Qingdao! My first impressions of the city are that it’s a beautiful environment with a very relaxed atmosphere. The weather is slowly getting warmer; I cannot wait to spend summer days/nights on the various beaches surrounding Qingdao.  I’m currently living in a home stay with a retired Chinese couple; they are both very sweet. I am hoping that this experience will help me to improve my confidence in speaking the Chinese language.

The Intern China team are all very friendly and kind, they have helped me to feel comfortable and settle in very quickly. I am excited to learn a lot of new knowledge, skills and experience working in an office environment for the very first time, besides the view from the Qingdao office is amazing! I’m sure these next few months working for Intern China and meeting more international interns will conclude to be an unforgettable experience with a lot of memories made in a beautiful city!
